One thing I did recently was change the default policy in the FORWARD chain in iptables. nmap confirms that it’s only port 80 that’s actually open on the container. But then I can’t access anything on that, I can access it on port 80 (even though 80 is also in use by the nginx proxy). And then when I use lsof to show what ports are open on the host, I see 8001 in use. I have told Docker to map port 8001 on the host to 80 in the container. So for example one of my apps is just nginx again serving a website. The host even thinks that the originally specified port is open, but it isn’t. After investigating, I found out that the other containers were just opening up whatever ports they wanted to on the host. It couldn’t reach the containerized apps on the ports I had specified. Then all of a sudden I started getting 502 errors from the nginx proxy. Setup: Arch Linux with kernel 5.16, Docker 20.10.12, using nginx-proxy with its acme companion to get certs for various apps in other containers. I don’t know if it was something I did or what. A great WiFi extender will provide the best possible internet connection not only inside every nook and cranny of your house but immediately outside your house as well. There’s a good chance that your WiFi signal is either not able to extend outside of your house or that the signal is much weaker in this area. Ring recommends eero mesh network systems as a way to help maintain wifi strength and stability. For a high-speed WiFI connection to reach your Ring camera, your internet signal must have great coverage. One mesh network device is placed next to your current router and then nodes can be placed throughout your house in order to make sure your wifi signal stays strong and consistent. So you don’t have to sacrifice good performance because it’s too difficult or costly. Now, mesh network technology is much simpler, more affordable and easier to set up for the average person. When wifi signals have to travel between the floors of a house, or building materials (brick, stucco, metal) that interfere with wifi signals, a mesh network is more likely to be able to overcome wifi obstacles than a wifi extender.įor many years, mesh network technology has required complicated set ups or professional installers. Mesh networks use nodes, which are small devices that communicate with each other to keep wifi signals strong and going to the right places without being interrupted.įor larger homes that may have a lot of electronic devices spread throughout the house, a mesh network may be a better solution than a wifi extender. A traditional home wifi network relies on one signal that gets distributed to all of your wifi enabled devices. They help improve your network speed, range and stability. Mesh networks allow multiple routers to work with each other as a team to share information and distribute wifi signals. Ring Chime Pro is a wifi extender that was designed to work with Ring devices. They need to be within a reasonable distance from a wifi router, about 20 feet max, in order for them to work effectively.įor homes that are 1500 square feet or under a wifi extender can be a good solution to extend your wifi range. Wifi extenders will stretch a wifi signal, but they don’t strengthen the signal. The best placement for a wifi extender is halfway between a router and an electronic device. They work best when they’re used with one or two devices that always stay in the same place. Wifi extenders can be a good solution to stretch a wifi signal between a router and an electronic device. Wifi troubleshooting steps How wifi extenders work Your neighbor’s wifi signal overlapping yours. Some common things that distort or weaken wifi signals are: Even though you can’t see anything, your wifi signals may be getting distorted by common things in and around your house. You might have noticed that your wifi signal is strong when you’re close to your router, but in other places you get no signal at all, or a weak signal that keeps disconnecting. The further away from your router a wifi device is, the further the signal has to stretch to reach it. If you have a continuous problem with your devices disconnecting from wifi or a weak signal, and your router is behind a couch or in a closet, move your router. When wifi signals have to travel distances, like reach out to your front or back yard or work around obstacles, they get weaker. Routers receive signals, decode them and send the information invisibly to all of the electronic equipment in your home. Wireless networks use radio waves to communicate. Learn how wifi signals, wifi extenders and mesh networks work. The way to go is a cheap HDMI Splitter, if you find the right oneĪnother, much easier and cheaper method, is the use of a HDMI splitter.Ī splitter in essence makes it possible to (for example) connect 2 TV’s to one HDMI source, not designed to strip the HDCP, but some actually do exactly that. However, as soon as you play HDCP content (Amazon Video, Netflix, Hulu, etc), your screen will turn black. This means that for example the navigation menu of the Amazon Fire TV and certain non-HDCP apps will work just fine. Note that quite a lot of devices, like the XBox One, XBox 360 and for example the Amazon Fire TV, dynamically set HDCP on their HDMI ports. The downside can be that some apps, which require HDCP, will not work when HDCP is disabled.įor more details “ PlayStation 4 HDCP toggle must be off to record games, on to watch video apps“. Some devices, like a PlayStation 4 console, offer the option to disable HDCP. The video quality may however be of a lower quality (Component Video is recommended – see also “ Connect your PC to TV“) as well. HDCP does not support analog connections and you should be able to view the video just fine on non-HDCP devices. Some devices, like the PlayStation 3 for example, have Component (good for 1080p if your TV supports it!), S-Video or Composite video output as well. Here is the Amazon link! Select a Different (Analog) Video Output One user (Brett) reported this HDMI-to-Component to work. But more about that once I’ve finished that project. Note that some converters do honor HDCP and might not work either.įor my Ambient Light project I’ve considered using this, since I only need a low resolution representation of the video – Ideally I’d prefer a video output of say 160 x 90 pixels. This conversion to an analog signal will result in a degraded picture quality, but the result might not be too bad. One of the methods used, yet sometimes complicated and expensive, is by converting the signal for example to VGA, Component or Composite video. Methods to Remove HDCP from HDMI Convert to Analog Naturally a “HDCP remover” or “HDCP Stripper” device is not readily available to the public … or is it? Non compliant devices, an old (HDMI) TV for example, will simply display a message that the content cannot be displayed or will display a blank screen. Just like those idiotic region codes of DVD’s and BluRay’s. Even though the master key for decryption has been compromised since 2010 and some smart folks assembled a device for demonstration purposes, HDCP is still in full use. The video sources asks for the secret code from the destination device, before it sends content, so the receiving party is authorized and can decrypt. HDCP uses authorization and encryption – it verifies (authenticate) the receiving party (Destination or “input”) – i.e. See it as the digital counter part of MacroVision as was used with analog video way back in the day. The content, or content source (where the “output” comes from), determines if HDCP is needed, and is/was intended to prevent content to be displayed or recorded by unauthorized devices. The first HDMI versions did not include HDCP, but most modern HDMI capable devices support it. HDCP is a copy protection that was added to the HDMI standard, at a later time, by Intel. HDMI and HDCP – Some background information So I’m looking at older HDMI LCD/LED/Plasma TV’s, HDMI Projectors, Game Recording (PS3), taking screenshots for documentation and/or articles, and of course my own little project to generate ambient light behind my TV! Please keep this in mind. Please note that I’m not writing this article to promote pirating content! This article is solely aimed at using non-HDCP compliant equipment with equipment that seems to require HDCP. The downside of that project is that it only works for a dedicated HTPC running for example Kodi (XBMC).īut what if I’d like to see this with video from my XBox 360, XBox One, Wii, or … Blu-ray player or cable box?īesides the fact that we need to grab this video, and all it’s technical complications, we will be running into a copy protection issue called HDCP, a HDMI feature nobody really asked for. I’ve been playing with ambient light for my TV for a while now, as you can see in the “ Ambient TV lighting with XBMC Boblight, OpenElec and WS2811/WS2812 LEDs“, to make colorful lights (LEDs) light up matching the video you’re seeing on your TV.
